Signs You're Not Getting Enough Nutrients on a GLP-1

Your appetite is down, but is your body getting what it needs? Watch for these warning signs that you may be running on empty.

One of the best things about GLP-1 medications is that they quiet the constant food noise and reduce appetite. But there's a flip side: when you eat less, you can easily fall short on essential vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients without realizing it. Your body will tell you — if you know what to look for.

Persistent Fatigue

If you're sleeping enough but still dragging through the day, it may not be the medication — it may be that you're not fueling your body adequately. Low B12, iron, or overall caloric intake can leave you feeling wiped out. A simple blood panel can reveal what's missing.

Hair Thinning or Loss

This is one of the most distressing side effects patients report, and it's almost always nutritional. Rapid weight loss combined with inadequate protein, biotin, zinc, or iron can trigger telogen effluvium — a temporary but alarming wave of hair shedding. We carry Nutrafol in our office and can recommend targeted support.

Feeling Cold All the Time

When your body isn't getting enough calories or nutrients, it conserves energy by reducing heat production. If you're suddenly always cold, it's a sign your metabolism is slowing — often from eating too little, not from the medication itself.

Muscle Weakness or Cramps

Low protein, magnesium, potassium, or electrolytes can cause muscle weakness, cramps, and even spasms. This is especially common in patients who aren't supplementing with electrolytes — which is why we include daily electrolytes in our Thorne GLP-1 Support Stack.

Mood Changes or Brain Fog

Your brain runs on glucose, B vitamins, omega-3s, and amino acids. When these drop, you may notice irritability, difficulty concentrating, or a general foggy feeling. Proper nutrition isn't just about your body — it's about your mind, too.

What to Do About It

At Keystone Wellness & Weight Loss Center, we don't just prescribe a medication and send you on your way. We monitor your labs, track your symptoms, and adjust your nutrition plan throughout your journey. Our Thorne supplement line — including our curated GLP-1 Support Stack — is specifically designed to fill the gaps that occur when appetite decreases.
